On a new connection, the work we do usually takes a day. What decides when you get power is the application, the load declaration, the wayleave if a pole or a line has to cross someone else’s land, and KPLC’s own scheduling.

We are straightforward about this because the alternative, implying we control a timeline we do not, is how people end up furious with the wrong party. What we can do is make sure the application is right the first time, because a rejected or incomplete submission is the most common avoidable delay.

What we handle

Prepaid meters

Most new domestic connections in Nairobi are prepaid. Worth knowing: a prepaid meter that keeps consuming tokens far faster than expected is usually an earth leakage or a genuine load you have not accounted for, not a faulty meter. We test for leakage before anyone starts a dispute with KPLC, because in most cases the fault is inside the property.

Never bypass a meter

We will not do it, and we will not work on an installation where it has been done. Beyond being illegal, an unmetered connection is almost always an unearthed and unprotected one, and it is a recurring cause of fatal accidents in Nairobi.
