Electric Fence Installation in Nairobi: Energisers, Zoning and Compliance

An electric fence is a deterrent and an alarm

Its value is roughly half deterrence and half detection. A fence that shocks but does not report a breach to anyone has given up the more useful half. We zone perimeters so that an alarm tells you which section was touched, and integrate that with whatever alarm or response service you use.

Sizing the energiser

Energisers are rated by joules, and the rating has to match perimeter length and vegetation load. An undersized unit on a long perimeter loses voltage along the run and stops deterring anything near the far corner. An oversized one is simply wasted money.

Vegetation is the variable people forget. A perimeter that runs through a hedge (common on Karen, Runda and Lavington plots) leaks current continuously to any leaf touching a live wire, and either needs a stronger energiser or a maintained clearance strip.

Compliance and safety

Warning signage at intervals along the perimeter is required, not optional. Correct earthing is what makes the fence work at all, a poorly earthed fence delivers a weak shock and frustrates everyone. Gate crossings need proper insulated under-gate cable rather than a length of wire slung over the top.

Backup power

A fence that dies with the mains protects you exactly when it is least likely to be needed. Every installation we do includes battery backup on the energiser, and we test it rather than assuming the battery is still good.

Maintenance nobody mentions

Vegetation grows back, insulators crack under Nairobi UV, and batteries age. A fence is not a fit-and-forget item. We will tell you the realistic service interval, and it is more often than most installers admit.
