What an electrician costs in Nairobi

Very few Kenyan electrical contractors publish anything. We publish what we can stand behind, and we are explicit about what we cannot.

The callout

The callout brings an EPRA-licensed electrician, test instruments and a diagnosis: typically KES 1,500–2,500 in business hours, deducted from the invoice if you go ahead. Nights, Sundays and public holidays are higher and we tell you the figure before we set off.

If you decide not to proceed, you pay the callout and keep the written test report.

What we will not publish

Per-point house wiring rates. They depend on concealed versus surface conduit, run lengths and the condition of what is already there, and there is no reliable published Kenyan benchmark to anchor them to. Quoting a number here that changes at survey would be worse than saying nothing.

So those rows say quoted at survey, and they mean it.

How larger work is quoted

A written fixed-price quotation before work starts. Anything found once walls or boards are opened becomes a written change order you approve before we continue. Materials are itemised separately so you can see labour and parts.

How we take payment

Staged payments against milestones by M-Pesa with a receipt for each stage, or bank transfer. No large deposit before materials are on site.

What you get that is not on the invoice

A labelled circuit schedule inside the board cover. A written test certificate with the actual readings. Photographs of every wall before it closed, if we wired it. None of these are extras and none of them are charged for: they are simply what a properly finished electrical job includes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the callout deducted from the job?

Yes, in business hours. If you go ahead, it comes off the invoice. If you do not, you pay the callout and keep the written test report: it is yours, and you are free to take it to anyone else.

Why are house wiring rates quoted at survey rather than published?

Because we would be inventing them. Per-point rates depend on whether conduit is concealed or surface, the run lengths and the state of what is already there. Kenyan per-point rates are not published anywhere reliable, and we would rather survey than quote a number we cannot stand behind.

What is a test certificate and do I need one?

It records the actual readings (insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance, RCD trip times) for your installation. You need it at sale, at insurance renewal, and after any incident. We issue one on every job that changes an installation.

Do you charge more at night?

Yes, and we tell you the figure on the phone before we set off rather than when we arrive. Undisclosed after-hours charges are a common complaint about emergency trades here and it is easily avoided.
