Switch off first, then call

If you can smell burning, see scorching around a socket, or anyone has felt a shock, switch off at the main breaker before you do anything else. Do not open the board. Do not reset a breaker that has tripped twice: it tripped for a reason and resetting it a third time is how a fault becomes a fire.

Then call. We answer at any hour and we tell you the callout figure before we set off.

What we treat as an emergency

• A burning or hot-plastic smell anywhere near a board, socket or switch
• Scorch marks, sparking or a socket too hot to touch
• Anyone receiving a shock from a tap, an appliance or a switch
• A breaker that trips immediately every time it is reset
• Partial power loss: some circuits live, others dead, which on a three-phase supply usually means a lost phase
• Water reaching a distribution board or a socket

What we do not do over the phone

We will not talk you through opening a board. We will talk you through isolating safely, and we will tell you which circuits it is reasonable to leave on while you wait.

Tripping is information, not a nuisance

An RCD that trips is doing its job. The question is what caused it. Most Nairobi callouts come down to a water-damaged outdoor socket, a failing water heater element, an appliance with a breaking down winding, or accumulated leakage across several circuits that individually pass but together exceed the trip threshold.

We find which, and we tell you which. Fitting a larger breaker to stop the tripping is the single most dangerous thing an unlicensed fundi does, and we will not do it.

Test certificate

Every emergency job ends with a written record of what was found and what was done, including any test readings. If we cannot make something safe on the visit, we will isolate it, tell you plainly which parts of the house are affected, and book the repair.
