We can make sure the application and load declaration are right, which removes the most common avoidable delay. The scheduling itself is KPLC's and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do meanwhile is make the temporary supply safe and properly protected, which is often where the real risk sits.

Is a basement board near the Kirichwa a problem?

It can be. Ground here holds water and basement intake rooms flood in the long rains. Boards need mounting well above floor level with proper drainage below them, and it is far cheaper to do at installation than after a board has been submerged.

Kileleshwa has been rebuilt almost entirely, from bungalows to apartment blocks, in about two decades. The buildings are new. A good deal of what supplies them is not.

New buildings on old connections

A service connection installed for a single bungalow now feeds a block of twenty units. The building was upgraded; the cable in the ground was not. The symptom is voltage that sags noticeably at peak evening load and a supply that cannot carry what the block actually draws.

Blocks along Laikipia Road routinely run for months on a temporary arrangement while a permanent three-phase connection is processed. Temporary supplies are where corners get cut: undersized cable, improvised distribution, no RCD protection.

We would rather make the temporary installation genuinely safe than leave it and hope the permanent one arrives soon. It usually takes longer than anyone expects.

Water and boards

The plots closest to the Kirichwa have basements that take water in the long rains. A distribution board mounted at knee height in such a basement is a serious hazard and an expensive replacement. Mounting height, drainage and an IP-rated enclosure are cheap at installation and costly afterwards.
