House Wiring in Nairobi: First Fix, Second Fix and Certification

First fix is where the money is saved or lost

Everything expensive about electrical work happens after the walls are closed. Getting conduit routes, box positions and circuit counts right at first fix costs almost nothing; getting them wrong costs a chase across a finished wall for every socket you wish you had.

We walk the shell with you before pulling a single cable, and we mark positions on the wall rather than on a drawing. Where the kitchen goes decides more circuits than any other room, so we would rather know the layout at first fix than guess.

What a proper first fix includes

  • Conduit run and boxed, with draw wires left in every run
  • Circuit count sized to realistic load, not to the minimum that passes
  • Separate circuits for the kitchen, the water heater and any outbuilding
  • Provision for a generator or inverter changeover even if one is not being fitted yet
  • Earth electrode position agreed before the ground is landscaped

That last point is the one most often missed on Nairobi builds. Once the driveway and the landscaping are done, installing a proper electrode is far more expensive than it needed to be.

Second fix and handover

Accessories, board build, labelling and testing. We measure and record insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance and RCD trip times, and we hand over a written certificate with the readings.

Photograph before you close

We photograph every wall before plastering and hand you the images. Anyone drilling into that wall later (for a TV bracket, a shelf, a cabinet) will know exactly what is behind it. On a house we have wired, that is the cheapest insurance available.

Other things we do

Power fault in Nairobi? Call before you touch the board.

If anything is sparking, smoking or wet, switch off at the mains first and do not touch the board.
